Appointed as the new Huddersfield Town manager on February 19th after more than a year away from the game, André Breitenreiter managed a great victory in his first game.
The Terriers were taking on Watford away from home, and walked away with all three points after battling hard for a 2-1 win.
Breitenreiter was interviewed by Bild after the game to ask him about his first match in charge of Huddersfield, and the 50-year-old was over the moon with how things had gone, especially since his pre-game team talk worked a charm.
He said: “A win at the start is always important. The team and the whole club want to move forward. You can feel that and it makes me feel good. Nevertheless, we also saw that there is still a lot of work waiting for us.
The clash between Huddersfield and Watford will have been a special one for Breitenreiter as well, since he was facing Valérien Ismaël, with both having been players and managers at Hannover 96 in their respective careers.
In the end, it’s the newcomer who picked up the win, and he will be delighted with the start, ready to take on the next challenge against Leeds at home on March 2nd, which the new manager sees as a real ‘David vs Goliath’ clash.
By contrast, Huddersfield are battling against relegation, currently 19th after their win against Watford, two points ahead of 22nd placed Stoke City.
