Because Eric Dier couldn’t seem to convince Ange Postecoglou to play him at Tottenham despite all his efforts, the England international was allowed to join Bayern Munich in the January transfer window.
The deal was a strange one six months from the end of his contract with Spurs, but he arrived on a loan, with the Premier League side capable of getting bonuses based on various factors.
Since then, the Tottenham hasn’t looked back, and has settled in nicely into Thomas Tuchel’s plans in Bavaria, once again starting against Borussia Mönchengladbach where Frankfurter Rundschau sing his praises.
The outlet explain the defender has ‘attracted attention’ with his displays against Augsburg and the aforementioned Gladbach, where he was ‘error-free and reliable’.
Over the weekend, he ‘impressed with a strong performance’, telling everyone around him what to do and showing himself ‘robust’ in duels, doing his job ‘flawlessly and reliably’.
In short, he is making a very strong case for himself to keep starting for Bayern Munich going forward, and showing Tottenham what he is capable of doing when you believe in him.
We’ll have to see if he will still get a chance once Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae return, but Dier made it clear after the Gladbach win he won’t back down easily.
He said: “I always want to play, no matter where I am. When I came here, I was ready to play and I had the chance to do so in the last two games.”
