IF Brommapojkarna sporting director Philip Berglund has revealed his delight at former protégé Lucas Bergvall’s impending move to Tottenham.
Sportbladet cover comments from the director today amid reports Bergvall has turned down Barcelona in preference of joining Tottenham in the near future.
The Swedish side are set to benefit massively from that deal having nurtured Bergvall earlier in his career before he joined Djurgården in February 2023.
Since that move, he has gone from strength to strength, establishing himself as the rising talent in Swedish football and even making his debut for the national team in January despite only celebrating his 18th birthday today.
The move to Tottenham is yet to be formally announced but all indications are that he will link up with Ange Postecoglou’s side in the near future after rejecting Barcelona.
That means they could be set for another windfall, something they’ve become accustomed to in recent years, and Berglund is naturally delighted.
“We are incredibly proud that players that our academy has produced go to such big clubs. Lucas will be one of our biggest sales ever,” he said.
“We do not comment on sums in this way. But it is a damn good grade for the academy activities that are conducted both at Stora Mossen and Grimsta.
“It is not the first time a BP-raised player goes to a bigger club. But it goes without saying that if this club is to survive and grow in the long term, we need to continue to nurture players, and sell for even more money.
“We are a club that basically lacks audience and sponsor revenue, to some extent in comparison to many other clubs. We must produce the new Kusi-Asare and Bergvall.
“What we are dealing with is basically transfer income. We need to continue reinvesting in youth activities so that they will do an equally good or better job in the future.”
