Liverpool made an approach for Real Sociedad star Takefusa Kubo at the beginning of the month, but the player ‘did not want to listen’ to the proposal.
That’s according to journalist Jorge Picón, relayed by Fichajes, who says he remains a target for the summer transfer window.
It’s explained that Kubo is demonstrating a growing importance at Real Sociedad this season, with six goals and four assists in 25 games in all competitions to his name this season.
He’s showing he could be a ‘top-level player’ and worthy of his €60m release clause, with offers already coming from Saudi Arabia and then Liverpool.
That’s not stopped Liverpool’s interest in him, though, and he remains a target for them in the summer transfer window. They are presumably keeping an eye on his development, particularly at the Asian Cup this month, where he is one of the stars.
Jurgen Klopp and co are following his season ‘with great interest’ and it’s stated they will return in a few months to try and secure his signing.
Real Madrid could be a problem on that front as they retain a right on their former player and can pick him up as long as they make an offer for half of any proposal Real Sociedad receive for him and match the wages being offered.
They then will have the final word on any transfer. That’s not a problem for now but could be if Liverpool revive their interest come the summer.
