Dutch manager Dick Advocaat is planning to speak to Bournemouth’s Justin Kluivert as well as Luton Town’s Tahith Chong about representing Curacao rather than the Netherlands.
That’s according to Voetbal Primeur and Voetbal Zone, who both cover comments from Advocaat today as he looks to bolster his options as the new Curacao manager with the Bournemouth and Luton players.
Advocaat was named as the new Curacao manager this week in a surprise appointment to replace interim coach Dean Gorre, who had been in charge for the last six months.
The experienced coach has been brought in with the aim of getting the Dutch Caribbean island to the 2026 World Cup, having never qualified for the tournament in their history as either Curacao or Netherlands Antilles.
The nation have enjoyed success convincing Dutch players to change allegiance in the past and it seems Advocaat is planning that again, with his eyes currently on Bournemouth and Luton in particular.
“It’s a very nice challenge, especially with the people we go with. Everyone is enthusiastic,” Voetbal Primeur report him saying.
“There is a new board, and they discovered that there were a lot of debts. One of the debts was that the playing group was not paid. Then we said: then we will not step in, that must be arranged.
“Bazoer, certainly. We still have to talk to him. Locadia. There are still a few running. In England, at Luton Town: Chong, Kluivert, he is already 24.
“He plays for Bournemouth,” Voetbal Zone cover him explaining, after presenter Wilfred Genee initially thought he was discussing a different player.
“He is 24 and has only played for the Dutch national team once or twice. Then they can still represent another nationality.”
