Sevilla are regretting not accepting Aston Villa’s bids for defender Marcos Acuña in the summer transfer window, with the emergence of Adrià Giner Pedrosa meaning the Argentine is no longer needed.

That’s according to AS, who cover the Catalan today and how he has risen to become the owner of the club’s left-back position, leading to regret when it comes to Acuña.

The newspaper explains that if those in charge at Sevilla had anticipated Pedrosa’s performances this season and that Acuña was going to spend so much time on the treatment table, things may have played out differently in the summer.

They certainly would have not been so ‘defensive’ when it came to the low offer from Aston Villa for the player and indeed would have ‘packed him off to Birmingham’ as a matter of urgency.

In other words, they’re regretting not taking the opportunity to sell Acuña while they had the chance, with Pedrosa’s rise and the World Cup winner’s injury problems meaning they no longer see him as they once did.

Indeed, their reluctance to sell him seems to have completely disappeared and they would happily get rid thanks to Pedrosa now owning the position.

That could give Aston Villa their chance to finally get their man, although with Lucas Digne and Alex Moreno both impressing at left-back for them, perhaps their desire for a move has now dissipated as well.
