Everton have ‘knocked on the door’ of the agent representing Salernitana striker Boulaye Dia ahead of the January transfer window, with the Italian side looking to sell.

That’s according to Sport del Sud, relaying information from Il Mattino, who name Everton as one of several sides to have been in touch with the striker’s agent.

The newspaper explains that Salernitana need to sell players and ‘raise cash’ before they can operate in the January transfer window and Dia is one of the players they could look to sell.

Everton are one of the side to have ‘already knocked on the agent’s door’ to ask for information about the player, whose current price tag is set at €22m.

The striker has been linked with a move away since the summer, when he pushed to join Wolves late in the window, even seemingly going on strike to make it happen.

It didn’t and he ended up spending time away from the club before the issue was resolved and he returned but the club’s president this week opened the case again by insisting he will sell anyone that doesn’t want to be at the club.

Those comments came alongside a report explaining that Dia now has a clause in his contract allowing him to join a Premier League side for €21m should one make a bid.

Thus, a transfer could be easy to do for Everton should they wish, although it is highly doubtful they have €21m to spend or would be allowed to do so given reports they are sailing close to the wind in terms of acceptable losses once again following their 10 point deduction this season.

A loan deal would make considerably more sense and be more financially viable, but whether Salernitana would do such a deal given their own need for cash, remains to be seen.

Either way Everton are believed to still be in the market for a player who they were reportedly looking at last summer before eventually signing Beto from Udinese.
