Last week, reports from Brazil claimed that West Ham United are in advanced talks to sign Robert Renan from Zenit.
It was claimed that the Hammers have a €25m verbal agreement to land the player, and they’d loan him out to his former club Corinthians before bringing him to London.
That story may have been dismissed by Robert Renan’s agent, but there’s some insistence on it, as JB Filho features an update today.
The journalist comes up to say that the player is indeed ‘practically sold’ to West Ham, although his transfer would only actually happen in the summer of 2024.
Corinthians, who would receive him on loan, don’t want a six-month spell, and would only accept that if having him for the whole year.
Now it’s said that Internacional have since decided to get involved in that, also wanting to take part in the business, although that wouldn’t be an easy deal.
They also want a one-year loan spell, so both Zenit and West Ham would need to be on board with that, as well as the player.
This whole story feels weird because the reports make it sound like the player can only join West Ham six months from now, as if that was an obligatory condition.
Plus it wouldn’t make much sense for the Hammers to send him back to Brazil, especially on a year-long spell.
That’s a rumour we will keep an eye on, though, as the defender shows good potential and was recently called up by the national team.
