Chelsea are ‘ready for a new assault’ to try and get goalkeeper Mike Maignan from AC Milan having been interested in him for some time.
That’s according to Tuttomercatoweb, who say the Italian side are trying to secure the French goalkeeper to a new deal because of the interest from Chelsea and other clubs.
They explain that Maignan is ‘the object of desire’ for half of Europe and the hypothesis cannot be ruled out that one of the big clubs will make a move for him, with eyes particularly on Paris Saint Germain.
The Blues signed Robert Sanchez from Brighton in the summer after letting Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy leave and while he’s made a solid start under Mauricio Pochettino, they seem ‘ready for a new assault’ for Maignan.
The same goes for Bayern Munich, who are in the final stages of Manuel Neuer’s era and need to find a replacement for him.
In the meantime, Milan are working on a new contract for the player to try and keep him out of Chelsea’s hands.
The idea is to extend the goalkeeper’s deal until 2028 but his entourage are asking for him to be one of the top earners in Serie A, between €7-8m, a big rise from the €3.2m he currently earns. For now, Milan are only offering to double that so there’s a big gap between the two parties.
With his current deal expiring in 2026 there is no rush, but the belief is that Milan need to get a move on as the likes of Chelsea eye up a big move.
