Manchester United defender Victor Lindelöf has insisted he sees no point in replaying Sweden’s clash with Belgium after it was abandoned following a terror threat.
The centre back has been speaking, with his comments relayed by Aftonbladet, about the situation after the game was abandoned last night.
Sweden and Belgium’s clash was called-off at half-time after two football fans wearing Sweden shirts were shot dead in Brussels.
That led the city to be put on the highest terror alert as police hunted the suspect, leaving fans on lockdown inside and the game to be abandoned at 1-1.
It must, if possible, also be played in the same arena but Sweden have made it clear straight away that they are not interested in resuming the match.
Indeed, they have already travelled back to Stockholm after taking a flight late last night and the players, including the Manchester United defender, have now returned to their clubs.
And speaking after the game, the Manchester United man insisted, alongside the rest of the Swedish group, that he wasn’t interested in replaying the fixture.
“Belgium is already ready for the Euros, and we can’t get there. I don’t see any point in finishing the match,” he said.
“Sometimes, it doesn’t matter if the match is played out. We probably shouldn’t keep playing football when things like this happen in the world. We must try to get our society in order,” added manager Janne Andersson.
