Aston Villa finished their pre-season friendlies with a 2-1 victory over Valencia at the weekend.
The clash at Mestalla saw the Villans take a two-goal lead before the hosts pulled one back through Calum Chambers’ own goal in the 88th minute.
A few minutes before the Aston Villa defender headed the ball into his own net, Gabriel Paulista was seen arguing from the pitch with a Valencia supporter in the stands. The 32-year-old has now issued an apology for his actions through the club’s official website on Monday.
“It’s an important game, we’re at home and I stopped defending a play to talk to a fan. It was that, something that disrespected me and other colleagues as well.”
The Brazilian further went on to apologise to Valencia fans and also insisted he’ll defend Los Ches until his time at the club is over.
Meanwhile, Unai Emery and his men will kickstart the new season with a trip to St James’ Park to face Newcastle United on August 12th.
Aston Villa have already added Moussa Diaby, Youri Tielemans and Pau Torres to their squad this summer. They are still in the market looking for reinforcements and this was confirmed by the Premier League club’s new director, Monchi, on Sunday.
