As Liverpool’s chase for Fluminense midfielder André continues to be one of the strongest transfer rumours in the Brazilian media, outlet Globo Esporte today features an interesting story about this long-time pursuit from the Reds.

According to the outlet, Jurgen Klopp’s side have been following the player since January 2020, when they first watched him in a U-20 Copa São Paulo match.

The tournament is a huge youth competition in Brazil, and it’s actually very common that Liverpool and other European giants send their scouts to find promising players.

Globo Esporte points out that after three years of observations, the Reds decided to go for the signing, and made contact with Fluminense for the transfer at the start of this week.

No official bids have been placed yet, though, and the Brazilian club are actually very convinced of not letting the player leave in the middle of the year.

It’s said Fluminense know they may lose a chance to get a bigger fee now, but they’d rather prioritise their current season. Plus they believe that potential national team call-ups could help raise André’s price.

Liverpool will have to at least give it a try to know how serious the Rio de Janeiro side are. According to reports this week, the Reds already warned that their bid is about to arrive.
