Fulham midfielder Andreas Pereira should consider a move back to Flamengo in future, despite his somewhat bitter departure from the Brazilian side.
That’s according to Flamengo’s former Vice President of Communication Antonio Tabet, who believes both parties should reunite at some point in future.
Pereira left Flamengo for Fulham last summer following a year long loan spell in Brazil from Manchester United when he managed eight goals and three assists in 53 games in all competitions.
He was highly thought of at the club and they had an option to sign him permanently but elected not to do so after a decisive mistake in the Copa Libertadores final saw Flamengo lose against Palmeiras.
The bad blood between the two parties remains after that incident, despite Pereira insisting that he wants to return to Flamengo at some point in the future, meaning he’d likely be open to the move.
Tabet backs that idea and has called for both he and the club to work something out further down the line.
“I know there will be a lot of fans saying I’m crazy, but I hope Andreas Pereira comes back one day,” he said.
“He’s a hell of a player, he would be playing for today’s team. He had a calamity, but he played well, vision, good passing, good shooting and he seemed to like the club.
“It would be really cool to see the history of Flamengo on this return, the guy who failed in a Libertadores final… it would be cool to see the rebirth of Andreas Pereira and I think it would be commercially cool. The sport likes this resumption.
“I think there’s room for him, I’d rather play with Andreas Pereira than against Andreas Pereira. He lost Libertadores, but life goes on.”
