Everton are reportedly set to place a bid for Coventry City star Viktor Gyökeres.
The news comes from the Portuguese media, where outlet O Jogo covers Sporting’s pursuit of the player.
They start by highlighting the Lions’ confidence in the signing, as the Lisbon club believe they’ll reach a deal for the 25-year-old.
What seems to threat Sporting’s mission right now is Everton’s latest move for the transfer.
O Jogo write that Toffees’ boss Sean Dyche told the club he needs a new centre-forward. Therefore, Everton ‘will present a formal proposal’ for Gyökeres this week.
For now, it isn’t said how much Everton are putting on the table to get the transfer done.
The Portuguese media has many times claimed that Coventry City want €20m for their, and that’s how much Sporting are preparing to spend.
In recent stories claiming the Lions compete with Premier League clubs for the signing, it’s been said Sporting hope their fight for a potential Portuguese title, plus a place in Europa League is what could attract the striker to their club. Now to compete with Everton, the Lions will surely use similar arguments.
