As Chelsea continue with their pursuit of Inter Milan goalkeeper André Onana, they didn’t need to go very far to look for alternatives in the market.

As reported by Foot Mercato, the Blues had also been interested in AC Milan’s Mike Maignan, contacting the Rossoneri ahead of a potential transfer.

The outlet explains that Chelsea even made a first offer for him, and that was ‘quickly rejected’ by the Serie A giants.

It turns that Milan aren’t the only ones blocking the transfer, because according to Foot Mercato, Maignan isn’t keen on the move either.

It’s said the goalkeper ‘doesn’t want to join Chelsea’, as the possibility of moving to Stamford Bridge ‘does not particularly please him’.

The big reason for the rejection is the lack of Champions League football at Blues next season, following their failure to qualify for any UEFA tournament.

Foot Mercato are still not sure whether Maginan will want to stay with Milan or if he’ll ‘jump’ to another option in the summer. On Twitter, journalist Santi Aouna points out that talks for his contract renewal with the Rossoneri are on ‘standby’.
