Aston Villa are today again being linked to Sporting star Pedro Gonçalves.
The news this time comes from newspaper O Jogo, who feature a story about the last big game the Lions are playing this season.
That’s said to be a great opportunity for Sporting players to ‘convince’ scouts for clubs to go after their signing this summer.
O Jogo points out that Gonçalves, better known in Portugal as Pote, drew ‘big greed’ from Aston Villa, ‘especially’ after his match against Arsenal in the Europa League.
The problem is that Sporting ‘don’t want to sell’ the player, especially because they only own 50% of his transfer rights. So that’s a pretty big sign that they’d only let him go if his €80m release clause is triggered.
Pote isn’t the only player from the Lions with whom Aston Villa have been linked today. We also covered A Bola reporting that the Villans are interested in Manuel Ugarte, and even stand out as the ‘most likely destination’ for him this summer.
So as Unai Emery prepares to shop at Sporting, perhaps they could be looking at a double deal here.
