The biggest issue for Leeds United right now is of course their situation in the Premier League and whether they’ll retain their place in the top flight beyond the current season.
Defeat to Fulham on Saturday was a further blow to Javi Gracia, who hasn’t had the impact desired. The Whites now find themselves just a point outside the relegation zone, and what happens in the current weeks will have a huge impact on their summer business.
Victor Orta and his team will have to be planning for two scenarios, staying in the Premier League and making sure there’s no repeat of this next season, and relegation to the Championship and a battle to be promotion at the first time of asking.
Something good appears to be happening in the transfer planning department, especially when it comes to targeting Lois Openda. It was reported earlier this week that Leeds United are keen and repeatedly watching him.
The 23-year-old has impressed for Lens this season and that continued on Saturday as his club beat AS Monaco 3-0.
Openda was the Man-of-the-Match with French newspaper L’Equipe giving him 9/10, a mark they don’t hand out often.
The star of the show scored the first two goals and assisted the third, setting his side on the way to victory. L’Equipe went on to say he ‘demolished’ the Monaco defence, and waxed lyrical about his performance.
Openda is valued at around €30m, and will obviously only be an option for Leeds United if they remain in the Premier League.
