With Southampton standing at the bottom of the Premier League table, it’s natural for clubs to start looking at their squad to try and find potential targets for the next season.
This seems to be the case with Olympique Marseille, who are reportedly interested in Saints’ striker Serkou Mara.
The information is today brought by French outlet L’Equipe, who feature a list of targets who the Ligue 1 side have for the summer window.
There are no big details about the specific chase for the Southampton player, although the report does say that Marseille won’t sign him ‘at any price’.
That’s because the French side had already made a heavy investment in their attack in January when they bought Vitinha, and shouldn’t repeat that in the next transfer window.
It was last summer that Mara left Bordeaux to join Southampton on a €13m deal. In his first season in England, he has two goals and three assists in 29 appearances so far.
A potential relegation to the Championship would surely force the St. Mary’s side to revaluate the squad, and that could be a good chance for them to try to recover the money spent in that signing.
