A couple of months ago, Belgian youngster Enock Boateng left Anderlecht’s academy to join Burnley in a €350k move.

Leaving his country early, the youngster actually had a familiar face at his new club, as he’d find Vincent Kompany there.

Now speaking to the Belgian media (via Walfoot), Boateng points out that the reason why he chose Burnley was exactly the known faces he’d see at the club.

The 18-year-old was interviewed by Het Nieuwsblad, and pointed out he had several other possibilities on the table to leave Anderlecht.

“There were several offers, but at Burnley, Vincent made the difference with the rest of his team: Craig Bellamy, Floribert Ngalula, Bram Geers,… I know them all from Anderlecht.”

But Boateng couldn’t immediately play for Burnley, as he was first loaned to Belgian side KV Mechelen.

There he has four appearances so far, normally getting a few minutes in the second half. The player claims to understand the proccess, and says he’ll wait until his first chance at the Clarets shows up.

“If the coach thinks I’m not ready for the Premier League yet, I won’t be disappointed. Fortunately, I signed a four-year contract, which gives me confidence. Development is important. I want to be ready as soon as Kompany wants to field me”.

Enock Boateng was signed and announced by Burnley as Enock Agyei.

However, as explained by Walfoot, he chose to change his surname and start using the one from his late mother.

That’s why he now has Boateng on his shirt, and when he gets back to the Clarets, that’s probably how he’ll be called.
