Everton may be handed a second shot at summer target Samuel Chukwueze this year, with a ‘busy summer’ expected for the forward.

That’s according to AS, who say Villarreal are in a ‘dilemma’ with the player as his current contract is set to expire next year.

They explain that Chukwueze was close to leaving Villarreal last summer after falling out of favour under Unai Emery. At that point Everton were interested and ‘gave rise’ to a possible exit.

That never happened and the 23-year-old has since returned to his best under Quique Setién, who has managed to turn him back into a key player.

Now he and the club have a decision to make as his deal expires next summer and if the forward refuses to sign a renewal they will need to find a new destination for him.

His current value is €15-20m and the Spanish side believe he has a ‘good market’ in the Premier League, where Everton already tried to take him.

They also have financial needs to be addressed and as such would be willing to sell if a ‘good offer’ arrived as it would help to balance the books.

At the moment that is not the aim as they would prefer to extend Chukwueze’s contract and keep him at the club long-term.

If they cannot do that, though, the prospect of a sale is very much on the cards, giving Everton another chance at the man they apparently wanted last summer.
