Signed by Fulham on a €5.5m deal from Wolfsburg last summer, Kevin Mbabu had little time to prove himself at the club.
The fullback was only used by the Whites seven times this season, with 231 minutes on the pitch, and suddenly stopped being taken to their matchday squads.
Despite having signed a two-year contract with Fulham, he only stayed at the Craven Cottage for six months, as in the winter transfer window, he was loaned to Swiss side Servette.
Now speaking to the local media, Mbabu explains why he couldn’t adapt to Premier League football, and even blamed the negotiations which took him to the Whites last summer.
“My situation at Fulham was what it was for several reasons. The negotiations between Wolfsburg and Fulham lasted too long. I only arrived in London eight days before the start of the league,” said Mbabu (via Le Manbleu).
“Even though I haven’t played since November, I feel good.”
He was also quizzed about the reason why he wasn’t given many chances at the Whites. He explained that was a change made by Marco Silva last year, with the manager never changing his mind, and the player being sidelined forever.
“The team delivered a magnificent performance in their first game against Liverpool. That then chained the results. The coach had found his eleven, he continued with it. And the only time I started in the Premier League, on October 1st against Newcastle, we picked up a red card right at the start, and the manager decided to take off the two full-backs right before half-time. Frankly, I was not very lucky.”
