Fabio Silva moved to Wolves in September 2020, having come through the system at FC Porto.
The player was considered a good young prospect in Portuguese football, but there was surprise when the Premier League side agreed to pay more than £30m for him.
Things didn’t work out, and he went on loan to Anderlecht at the beginning of this season. He scored seven goals in 20 league matches for the Belgian side, but got itchy feet during the January transfer window.
PSV Eindhoven turned up with interest, and that made the 20-year-old take notice. Anderlecht were informed Silva wanted the move, and Wolves agreed a fresh deal with the Eredivisie side.
Over three Dutch league matches so far, the player has appeared for less than 50 minutes, but managed to get a goal at the weekend in a 6-0 victory over Groningen.
Voetbal International quote him as saying: “I am very happy. We played a good game, we booked a great victory with six goals difference. Personally I am also very happy with my goal, but it is not possible without good staff and a good team.”
Silva then spoke about his new manager, Ruud van Nistelrooy: “During our first meeting we talked for fifteen minutes about how I shoot the ball. I’ve learned so much from that already, from one of the best strikers in the world ever. And I can do that as a 20-year-old.
“Of course I want to play every minute, but I also try to look at what I can learn from the training sessions and the matches. Luuk de Jong (teammate) played for the best teams in the world, at Sevilla and Barcelona. So I have a coach who was one of the best strikers ever and also a top striker as a fellow player. To me that is incredible.”
That all sounds positive for Silva’s development, and therefore positive for Wolves.
