With Liverpool’s former sporting director Julian Ward being linked a move to Ajax, the Dutch media now features a few comments about it.
Those were made in De Telegraaf’s football podcast, where Mike Verweij, who covers the Amsterdam side, had a couple of things to say about the situation.
The journalist confirmed that Ajax are indeed interested in appointing Ward following his Liverpool spell, and claimed that an advantage the Eredivisie giants could have is that the director is blocked from working for another English club so soon.
“It is fairly concrete. He is very high on Ajax’s list,” said Mike Verweij on De Telegraaf (via Soccer News).
Verweij also mentioned a couple of positive arguments Ajax could have to attract the director, such as the power he’d have at the club and the new city he could be living in.
“At Ajax you have a bit more to say and it remains a big name in Europe. For an Englishman it can also be nice to live in Amsterdam for a while. I am very curious, I’d find it very special.”
Ward joined Liverpool back in 2012, when he was a scout for Manchester City and had the same job at Anfield. He worked for the Reds for the following years as a loan player manager and an executive assistant until taking the sporting director role in the summer of 2022.
