It’s clear that, so far, the 2022-23 season hasn’t gone to plan for West Ham United, who spent the last two years comfortably in the top half of the table.
Unfortunately, that isn’t the case this time around, with the Hammers languishing near the relegation zone despite having spent heavily in the summer on the likes of Gianluca Scamacca and Lucas Paqueta.
David Moyes’ job is clearly in jeopardy, and it remains to be seen how long he stays at West Ham, but the club are seemingly also thinking about the future as well as the present.
This comes from Calciomercato.it, who claim that the Premier League side have a ‘strong interest’ in Cristiano Giuntoli, Napoli’s director of football.
While that’s all well and good, the website throw us a curveball with this story, stating that while West Ham are interested, this has come ‘not from president David Sullivan’, but rather from who they describe as ‘the new owners, who should take over the club starting next season’.
That’s the grey area, because we aren’t sure if they mean Daniel Kretinsky, who started upping his shares in the club a year or so ago, or a brand new set of owners.
This is why we would take this with a pinch of salt for the time being, but we’ll keep an eye on this in case there’s more clarification down the line.
