Racing Club midfielder Carlos Alcaraz is has insisted “it is not a goodbye, but a see you later” as he is set to join Southampton.
The midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to St Mary’s over the last few days, with new manager Nathan Jones keen to improve his squad.
A deal has been picking up pace and reports today have made it clear that the player is set to join the Saints.
At first it was claimed Southampton were improving their bid after an initial €10m offer was rejected, but they already had an agreement in place with the player.
That was followed by a report stating that a €15m deal had been agreed and Alcaraz was set to undergo a medical in England tomorrow.
The youngster has now been spotted at the airport, presumably where he will be catching his flight to England, with TyC Sports stopping to chat to him about his imminent move to Southampton.
“I thank the fans from the bottom of my heart because they made me feel very comfortable. It’s not a goodbye, but a see you later,” they report him saying.
“If I had thought of saying goodbye like that, I wouldn’t have imagined it. I didn’t think the goal against Boca would have been the last in Racing.
“It is shocking because what I love the most is my family and it is difficult to leave without them, but soon I will have them with me. I was about to go to training, but they told me
“I was seeing that the Premier is a very nice league and I am going to have to work a lot. I am going to have to earn my place like in Racing. So now I’m about to go follow my dream.”
