Inditex founder and owner Amancio Ortega continues to deny that he’s interested in buying Manchester United.
Following initial reports from England claiming the businessman would be interested in taking over the club from the Glazer family, the Spanish media has been chasing the story.
It was first Cadena Cope who, this morning, got in touch with their sources at Inditex and were told that there’s no intention of that purchase.
With more outlets contacting Ortega’s staff, it seems they’ve now released an official statement about the situation. That was sent to outlet La Vanguardia, who share it on their website.
La Vanguardia adds that they heard from sources close to Ortega that two years ago similar information had been published by the same English outlets. And they believe that these stories are a manoeuvre to ‘try to inflate’ Manchester United’s price in the market.
Following the club’s statement regarding the new ‘strategic alternatives’ they’re seeking, several potential buyers have been linked by the media, including Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Apple and even club legend David Beckham.
