Liverpool’s Trent Alexander Arnold ‘did not understand anything’ when he came up against Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia this week.
That’s according to former Napoli striker Roberto Carlos “El Pampa” Sosa, who believes the Reds were fortunate to win the game.
Liverpool hosted Napoli in the final game of Group A earlier this week, with both sides having already secured their passage to the Champions League knockout stages.
Napoli were sat in first place in the group but victory by a big margin could have seen them supplant the Italian side and finish as group winners.
That didn’t happen, with a 2-0-win courtesy of Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez instead meaning they finished second, level on points with Napoli but with three fewer goals in the goal difference.
Sosa certainly wasn’t concerned by the defeat and singled out Alexander-Arnold for criticism for his performance up against man of the moment Kvaratskhelia.
“At Anfield Napoli played a great game,” Area Napoli report him saying.
“We saw a midfield up to the situation, taking into account that in front of them there was Liverpool, in attack Firmino did not touch the ball, on the other side Alexander Arnold, who is the best side in Europe, against Kvaratskhelia did not understand anything.
“Liverpool won the game on two loose balls; it is easy for a coach to work on this aspect.
“(That’s) without considering that the goals came ten minutes from the end when the first place was already acquired.”
