Wolverhampton Wanderers have still not appointed a new manager after sacking Bruno Lage last weekend.
The Premier League side are credited with interest in a few candidates, including Julen Lopetegui, who was relieved of his duties at Sevilla two days ago.
Following the 56-year-old’s sacking, the La Liga side held a press conference with him on Thursday. The manager was asked about the reports linking him to Wolves, but he refused to confirm or deny anything.
The former Real Madrid manager also admitted he would like to return to the Andalusian club in the future.
Regarding a return to the Estadio Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, Marca explain the door to a second spell at Sevilla is not closed. For now, Lopetegui, focuses on resting, while Wolves ‘close the net’ for him.
In his favour to arrive at the Premier League club is Jorge Mendes, who has close ties to Wolves. The super-agent has a weakness for Lopetegui from his time at FC Porto.
Since the manager will not be able to train in Spain this season, the report states moving to England will be an attractive option for him.
Wolves have also identified alternatives and will move on to them if they fail to find an agreement with Lopetegui.
