PSV Eindhoven are in a ‘race against time’ to get a deal for Everton youngster Jarrad Branthwaite over the line.
That’s according to Eindhoven Dagblad, who say the Dutch side are desperate to wrap up a move for the defender as quickly as possible ahead of the new season.
Reports yesterday made it clear that PSV were negotiating a deal with Everton for Branthwaite, who has been pushed down the pecking order following the arrival of James Tarkowski.
It seems the Blues are more than happy to send him out on loan for the season to continue his development, and Marcel Brands, the man who signed Branthwaite for Everton, wants to take him to PSV.
They state that PSV are in a ‘race against time’ to get Branthwaite’s move finalised so he can be ready for the first games of the new season.
Those are in a fortnight, and they want the Everton man in and adapted so he can ‘provide some air’ to a defence that has been hit by injuries in the last few months. The arrival of the 20-year-old is described as ‘imminent’.
This is backed up by De Telegraaf, who say PSV have ‘chosen’ Branthwaite, who will provide relief for a defence struck by injuries.
They say the youngster can ‘make minutes’ next season with the Dutch club, although the sentiment for both is that he is arriving as short-term cover for other players and is likely to be used as injury cover next season.
That doesn’t sound all that great for his development, but perhaps he can impress enough to end up being a regular under Ruud van Nistelrooy.
That remains to be seen, but for now, a loan deal with Everton has been struck, and it seems he’s on his way to the Netherlands for a year.
