Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette is on Atletico Madrid’s list of potential replacements for Luis Suarez this summer.
That’s according to Sport, who say the Uruguayan’s time at the Wanda Metropolitano is coming to an end, so he will need to be replaced.
They explain that there are currently several strikers ‘in the running to take his throne’, with Atletico doing their homework ahead of a move in the summer.
Finding a striker to replace Suarez is ‘one of the most complicated’ tasks because there are not many players to choose from, particularly after Dusan Vlahovic joined Juventus.
That has led them to look at Lacazette, who is an old target and looks set to leave Arsenal on a free transfer this summer.
The French striker has emerged as a starter in recent weeks after Pierre Emerick Aubameyang’s departure in January, and Mikel Arteta has hinted he could sign a new deal to extend his stay at the Emirates.
However, that seems ‘complicated’ given his track record at the club and Arsenal’s efforts to focus on younger players. Lacazette will be 31-years-old in May.
Sport say his ‘form’ doesn’t seem to suit Diego Simeone’s style and his goalscoring figures are ‘not the most spectacular’ either, two things that work against him.
The fact he could be available on a free is a major boost, though, with the man he’d be replacing, Suarez, proving older free transfers can be very fruitful.
He has ‘always been linked’ in the past too, meaning the Spanish side know exactly what they’d be getting after previous efforts.
They work in his favour and should Lacazette leave Arsenal on a free, it seems Atletico might be keen.
