Pierre Emerick Aubameyang has revealed it was a falling out with Mikel Arteta that led to his departure from Arsenal.
The striker completed a deadline day move to Barcelona earlier this week after months of speculation about his future.
He had been linked with a move away from the Emirates after a falling out with manager Arteta over disciplinary issues.
That saw him stripped of the captaincy and subsequently left out of the Arsenal squad from that moment onwards.
That led to talk of a move away from the club in January, but it took a mad, drama-filled deadline day deal to make it happen.
Initially, it appeared the striker would move to the Nou Camp on loan, only for that deal to fall through.
That led Aubameyang to fly to Barcelona to try and force a move, a trick which seemingly ended up working.
Eventually, Arsenal elected to let him go on a free transfer, with it now explained they are paying a part of his wages until the end of the season, at which point he’ll renegotiate his deal with Barcelona.
It’s something the player himself commented on in an Instagram post saying goodbye, and he’s now hinted it was all down to a falling out with Arteta.
“It was a very long day; it was crazy. We signed with two minutes to go. It was very long,” Mundo Deportivo report him saying.
“I was with my dad at his house, waiting for everything to go well. In the end, they called me in the afternoon to go for the medical and I was very happy. A bit of stress at the end, but everything was fine.
“It was a complicated few months, but I think that’s football sometimes. From my side, I never wanted to do something wrong, and now I think that is in the past, and I want to think about the present, and right now that is my answer.
“I think the problem was just with him (Arteta), and he made the decision. I can’t say much, he wasn’t happy, and that’s it. It happened like that. He wasn’t very happy, I was very calm, and that’s it.”
