Monday’s edition of L’Equipe has a big article on potential new investors in Saint-Etienne, and Portsmouth play a part in the story.
Portsmouth currently find themselves ninth in League One, with manager Danny Cowley steering them to a good position for the playoffs, with automatic promotion to the Championship also still a possibility for the club.
L’Equipe report Roman Dubov, who had a disastrous time in charge of the English club, promising much more than his investment ultimately brought, was at Saint-Etienne’s match against PSG on Sunday.
It’s explained he has the ‘firm intention’ of buying ASSE, and arrived along with eight others. One of those was former Spain international Michel Salgado, who appears to be working with the investment group in some capacity.
Total Sports Investments have ‘decided to buy’ Saint-Etienne, according to the French newspaper, and there doesn’t seem to be a great deal of worry over what happened with Portsmouth.
L’Equipe state: ‘Established for a long time in London, Roman Dubov had notably acquired the Portsmouth club, then in the Championship, on June 1, 2011. Eight months later, “Pompey” had been placed in receivership and penalised ten points. Before finishing in D4 and being bought by their fans, in 2013, this sporting and financial crash of the Russian businessman does not seem to frighten KPMG, the audit and management firm responsible for scrutinising the candidates to the redemption of the Greens.’
