The City Football Group bought Manchester City in 2008 and since then have helped the Citizens achieves domestic success in the last decade.
Manchester City came close to winning the Champions League last season, but fell short, after losing 1-0 to Chelsea in the final. While the English champions wait for their first European success, the City Football Group have invested across the continent and beyond over the years.
Along with the Etihad club, CFG have stakes in 10 clubs across the globe. They plan to add another club to the long list, if reports coming out of Russia are to be believed.
According to Championat, the Premier League winners’ owners plan to buy ‘approximately 20 percent’ of Spartak Moscow. CFG officials have examined Spartak’s facilities and were also in attendance during the latter’s clash against Rostov at the end of last month.
Former Rostov sporting director Paul Ashworth is involved in the negotiations between the City group and Spartak. It’s claimed the Englishman has been in Moscow, getting to know the details of the Russian club, including their training facilities and their youth system.
“At the moment Ashworth is in Moscow and spends a lot of time at the Spartak academy. The Englishman interviews the academy employees and evaluates its effectiveness at the request of CFG,” a source told Championat.
