Jonathan David arrived in France when Lille signed him from Gent in 2020. After finishing with 13 goals and five assists in his debut campaign, the forward has impressed this term with nine goals in 18 matches.
The 21-year-old’s form for the Ligue 1 side has caught the attention of Newcastle United and a few other clubs.
That’s according to Le10 Sport, who mention the Magpies when discussing the clubs that have shown ‘keen interest’ in the player.
It’s claimed the Canada international is ‘closely watched’ by the Tyneside club and Eddie Howe’s side have already ‘made their intentions known’ for the coming months. It’s not made clear if the Premier League side have made their intentions know to Lille, David or both.
Lille’s ‘leaders are listening’. They need to ‘bring in money’ and therefore, ‘all offers will be studied’. David is included in the list of players ‘likely to leave’ the French club, if there is a ‘good offer’.
Le10 Sport explain the chance of David changing clubs in January is ‘low’, but he will have an ‘exit ticket’ for next summer. With the likes of Newcastle and other sides positioned to sign David, ‘there is a good chance a deal will be possible at the end of the season’.
