Spanish outlet Marca today features a very interesting piece about what happened to Valencia defender Mouctar Diakhaby during the last transfer window.
The report explains the 24-year-old had a very clear idea of leaving the La Liga side this summer, with the Premier League being one of his preferred destinations.
And there was an English club willing to sign him. That was Newcastle United, who wanted Diakhaby on a loan, for which they’d pay a fee.
The Frenchman, however, turned down the offer from the Magpies.
The offer for a loan was seen as a ‘test’ to see if the defender could adapt himself to English football.
Marca still makes it clear that Valencia didn’t receive any official offers for Diakhaby this summer. In Newcastle’s case, it was a ‘declaration of intentions’, as the Magpies had made an approach to get to know if a move would be possible, and apparently it was not.
