Despite the expectation from the Spanish media that Brighton & Hove Albion would soon make another attempt for the signing of Getafe’s Marc Cucurella, it’s now starting to sound like the player is going nowhere.

It’s been a few days with no news on the Seagulls’ pursuit for the player, and now the coach of the La Liga side has claimed that he’s expecting him to stay at the club.

Speaking to the local media at the weekend, manager Michel talked about the interest from Brighton as a good thing, but didn’t seem to be confident about a potential move.

“I sincerely believe that Marc will continue with us, we know his level and we will make an effort to keep him with us,” said Michel (via La Razon).

“I think it’s good that Brighton have noticed him but I think he will continue with us.”

Reports from Spain have been claiming that Brighton had a first bid for Cucurella rejected, and La Razon does the same today, saying that initial offer was of €15m.

The local stories had then been expecting the Seagulls to trigger the player’s release clause, which was reported as of €18m, but La Razon today claims it stands at €30m.

So that’s indeed something that would make the negotiations a lot harder.
