Earlier today, we covered a tweet from Goal France journalist Marc Mechenoua regarding Aston Villa’s interest in Cheick Doucouré.

There was no mention of Arsenal in there, but the Villans were said to be alongside Atalanta in having come forward to contact the player’s entourage about a potential transfer for the Mali international.

However, in the article on Goal France’s website, the Gunners are mentioned.

According to the information, Arsenal are ‘looking for a profile to back up Thomas Partey and enter in the rotation’, and Doucouré is on their list of potential targets.

In fact, the London side have ‘asked for information’ about the defensive midfielder, clearly intrigued after his great season with the Ligue 1 club following their promotion.

While Aston Villa and Atalanta have ‘put forward their project to the player’, Arsenal don’t seem to have gone that far.

However, there are still three weeks left in the transfer window, but one thing is clear: Lens want €15m for Doucouré.

Not overly expensive, but still enough to make a nice dent in the wallet of whoever comes forward.
