There are just over two months left on Sergio Romero’s contract at Manchester United, and no one can predict where he’ll be playing when next season kicks off.
Reports from Argentina have been claiming that Boca Juniors and Racing are both interested in bringing the goalkeeper back to the country, and the desire from the Avellaneda side has been made public for a while now.
Club president Victor Blanco has spoken to the Argentine press at the weekend, and when quizzed about Sergio Romero, he claimed it’s up to the player to get the transfer done, not them.
“I always say the same thing, this type of player, as at the time it was Licha López or Diego Milito, they really come if they have the desire to come, otherwise it’s impossible. Argentine football is not there to afford to have that type of figures,” Racing president Victor Blanco told TNT Sports.
Sergio Romero doesn’t have a single appearance for Manchester United this season, and his wife has previously admitted he’s been trying to get a move out of the club for a while now.
Even though the Argentine media reports the interest from local sides, they also point out that the player may prefer to stay in Europe.
However, with few clubs from the top leagues being linked to him for the time being, his future remains a mystery, and perhaps a return to Argentina might be his only solution.
