Brentford Football Club narrowly missed out on finishing in the top two of the Championship last season and as a result, they didn’t seal a direct berth to the Premier League.

The Bees reached the play-off final, but lost to Fulham and in the process, failed to return to the top flight.

Thomas Frank’s side currently lead the table with 57 points after 28 matches and are two and four points ahead of second place Norwich City and third place Swansea City.

It’s been close to two weeks since the winter market closed, but the Championship side have already started preparing for the summer, and their execution of the plan depends on where they will play next season.

This was confirmed by Brentford director of football Rasmus Ankersen.

“Now we’ll see. We are not there at all right now, but it is clear that we are running with different plans in the drawer, now that we have a chance to move up, while we may also run the risk of missing again. So, like last year, we have a transfer plan for both scenarios,” he told BT.

Brentford owner Matthew Benham also owns FC Midtjylland and Ankersen is the chairman of the Danish club.

Frank Onyeka is one of the stars at Midtjylland and the defensive midfielder could be an option for the English club, if they climb up to the Premier League.

“There’s no prior agreement. It is, after all, a new situation for the Benham empire if we move up the Premier League, and that would create a different position between Brentford and FC Midtjylland in our ecosystem,” Ankersen explained.

“The two clubs will go from being cousins to being a big brother and younger brother. It offers some other options in terms of the infrastructure around the playing squads.”

Ankersen was further quizzed if it’s possible for Brentford to sign Onyeka. He said,“It’s obviously something we’re going to look at, but whether it’s just Frank, it’s too early to say anything about. All players in the FC Midtjylland are, in principle, an option.”
