Manchester City star Sergio Agüero is in his final year of contract at the Etihad.
Before the lockdown was lifted, the forward was linked with a move to Napoli, but these rumours were quickly dismissed by the 32-year-old’s agent, Hernán Reguera.
However, that did not stop the reports talking about the Naples club trying to sign the Argentine this summer.
Rai Sport journalist Ciro Venerato appeared as a guest on Radio Kiss Kiss’ program, Radio Goal, and chatted about the former Atlético Madrid man, as relayed by Area Napoli.
On June 17th, Venerato had explained Agüero is a ‘suggestion’ for Gennaro Gattuso’s side and he once again stressed exactly the same thing this time around.
The Italian journalist then added he has proof about the conversation that took place between the Serie A club’s officials and the South American’s camp.
“I have telephone proof. A WhatsApp arrived from authoritative personnel who have called Kun Aguero’s brother but have also always said: ‘We are trying for the Manchester City striker, but it is only one suggestion’,” Venerato said.
The Napoli expert, however, stressed he never promised the arrival of Pep Guardiola’s forward at the San Paolo Stadium.
“There are many suggestions, there are other negotiations. There have been two phone calls to Aguero’s brother and this has been confirmed in private,” he concluded.
To sum it up, Agüero was a ‘suggestion’ for Napoli, but there’s nothing to indicate he would swap City for the Italian club.
