Claudio Ranieri’s search for midfielders after a very successful season with Leicester continues, and the same targets keep reappearing, leading us to believe there might be something behind it.
With Nampalys Mendy from Nice apparently close to signing for the Premier League champions, and with N’Golo Kanté and Danny Drinkwater still at the club, you wouldn’t think there would be need for much more.
Yet, with the Champions League looming over the club next season, strength in depth will be very much needed, meaning more quality players to rely on.
The 22-year-old spent last season on loan from Marseille, and impressed enough for the Serie A champions to make the deal permanent towards the end of April for around £7.5m.
Whether this was to potentially sell him on for a profit remains to be seen, but the Italian newspaper reports Leicester are prepared to make a €20m (£16.7m) bid for the Gabonese international.
As Gazzetta put it, ‘Ranieri wants him’ and Juventus, while not planning on selling him, could be tempted considering the profit they would make.
We’ll keep an eye on this.
