It’s been a bit quiet on the Adrien Rabiot to Everton front these days, but we have the Italian media to thank for bringing it back to the fore on Friday.
The French midfielder swapped Paris Saint-Germain for Juventus last summer, and while he has played here and there, he hasn’t been a first-team regular under Maurizio Sarri.
Then came the Covid-19 pandemic, and the France international ended up causing a bit of a buzz when he returned from his quarantine late, which immediately led to rumours of an exit.
One of the first clubs to be mentioned, other than Manchester United, were Everton, where Carlo Ancelotti is the current manager.
The Italian knows Rabiot well from their time at Paris Saint-Germain together, and he is the only manager under whom the Frenchman has found regular football and form.
Of interest to a number of Premier League sides, it’s pointed out there have been ‘informal contacts’ with Everton, while ‘other avenues could emerge’.
It’s not said who said contacts were between, whether it was through Véronique Rabiot, the player’s mother and agent, or if the two clubs have actively held some talks regarding a move.
Either way, it hasn’t gone away, and we doubt it will entirely because it’s a good story, and with Everton’s dire need for midfielders, it also makes a lot of sense.
