Still having to wait to bolster their first-team, seeing as they remain unsure whether or not they will be allowed to play European football or not, Manchester City are instead filling their academy with talented players for the future.
Following the acquisition of Kluiverth Aguilar, Pep Guardiola’s side have signed a young goalkeeper from FC Utrecht’s youth teams named Mikki Van Sas.
Describe as his ‘dream transfer’ by De Telegraaf, the 16-year-old will first receive a scholarship for one-year before putting pen to paper to a contract for the next three seasons.
It’s stated Utrecht will receive a ‘small lump payment’ as compensation for the services of the youngster, who is seen as one of the best in his class.
Speaking about the transfer in terms relayed by Utrecht Nieuws, the Eredivisie side’s technical director Jordy Zuidam explained the club would be saying goodbye to Van Sas with ‘mixed feelings’, because he is ‘an incredibly talented goalkeeper’ leaving their academy and they would have liked to see him ‘shine at the Galgenwaard Stadium’.
However, he admitted the player ‘said he really wanted to make this move’ and that they, as a club,’ saw ‘his transfer to Manchester City as a compliment’ to their youth academy.
He also added ‘all parties are satisfied’ with the agreement in place taking Van Sas to the Etihad, and wished the goalkeeper ‘every success in England’.
