The time of Xisco at Newcastle United may not mean a lot to the club, but it’s still a big thing in the player’s lifetime story.
The striker has been interviewed by Riazor.org, which is a website for Deportivo La Coruña fans, and recalled the big move he made to the Magpies in 2008.
“Everything went very fast. I was at the hotel, focused with Dépor to play against Real Madrid at home. They call me and tell me that the transfer is closed and that I can’t play,” said Xisco.
“That I had to go down and talk to Lotina. And well, we were chatting. It caught me by surprise because I wasn’t thinking about going out, but it was a very good opportunity for both parties economically. After the game I left on the plane that took Madrid back and from there to Newcastle. It was quick, unexpected and by surprise.”
Newcastle United paid €5m to sign Xisco from Deportivo La Coruña in 2008. They kept him in England for one season, then loaned him out to Racing Santander in 2009.
Xisco returned to the Magpies in 2010, and then had a second chance, but still couldn’t convince at the club. So in January 2011, he joined Deportivo on a one and a half year loan.
He still returned to Newcastle United in the summer of 2012, then in January 2013, it was time for the final farewell, having joined Cordoba on a free move.
Despite the several spells, Xisco only had 11 appearances for the Magpies, scoring his only goal in his Premier League debut against Hull City.
