Tutto Mercato Web Radio featured on Monday an interview with Cristiano Giaretta, who’s currently a sporting director at Bulgarian side CSKA Sofia.
This is his third job in this role. Before going abroad, he had been taken care of transfers at Novara, Udinese and Ascoli.
During his time at Novara, Giaretta was responsible for the signing of Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes. And since the midfielder has been a hot topic in the past few days, TMW wanted to know more about the new Manchester United player.
Asked if there’s any satisfaction in seeing Fernandes at the Red Devils, Giaretta said: “Yes, a lot. It all started with a trip to Boavista to see this talented player who convinced me and we took him to Italy.
“He was very weak from the physical point of view but his main feature is the head. After a month in Novara he was already able to hold an interview in Italian and this makes it clear the dedication he had to get to the top with great determination. It’s a pride to see him at Manchester United.”
Bruno Fernandes’ quick adaptation to a new language is probably not a surprise for Manchester United fans, since he’s already given his first interview for the club in English.
Giaretta not only signed the player for Novara, but also took him to Udinese during his next job. Fernandes was later sold to Sporting in 2017 in a €10m deal.
Manchester United announced an agreement for Bruno Fernandes on Wednesday, with the signing made official on Thursday and the midfielder making his debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, where he was awarded the man of the match.
