One of the late, late signings of the transfer window, Moussa Sissoko’s decision to join Tottenham appears to have been a good one.
Making an appearance in all of the Premier League games since, the midfielder already seems to be an important player for Mauricio Pochettino, despite not having a preseason with the squad to get to know the majority of his teammates.
Now on international duty with France ahead of two World Cup qualifiers against Bulgaria and the Netherlands, the former Newcastle player was interviewed by FIFA’s website about his busy summer, especially what happened after the loss against Portugal in the 2016 Euro final.
He said: “I went on holiday, and everyone knew I wanted to leave Newcastle to go to a bigger club, play in the Champions League and compete for titles. Thank God, I signed for Tottenham. There were talks that started way before and everything happened in the last few hours.
“I would’ve liked for it to be done quicker. I was able to rest a bit still, but psychologically, it drained me a bit. I like to have a preseason with the team because it’s easier to settle. Arriving at the end of the window isn’t the same, even if I was lucky to be well received and everything went well.”
The new Spurs man also explained his performances at the Euros, especially towards the latter stages of the competitions, were the result of a mixture of motivations, from the frustration of his Newcastle season, to wanting a new club, as well as playing in front of a home crowd.
A Deschamps favourite for his energy and ability to burst forward, Moussa Sissoko now seems to be a happy man with his Newcastle time now behind him.
Happy players make for good performances… Who knew?
