Having recently swapped Huddersfield Town for KAA Gent this summer on a free transfer, it’s normal for Laurent Depoitre to be talking about his time at the John Smith’s Stadium.
The Belgian press are always trying to find out what went wrong, and the 30-year-old has already given a number of interviews to various outlets around the country, and this time it was DH’s Le Grand Débrief’s turn to sit down with the striker.
Compared to his previous interview with Sport/Foot, where he discussed how unprepared he felt Huddersfield were for the top flight, the forward was a bit more reserved, yet he still opened up about how tough the 2018-19 campaign was for everyone involved in it.
“In the end, we nearly beat the record of having the least points in a Premier League season. It’s a season to forget, even personally, but for the team too. Now I’m happy to be [at Gent] and find some pleasure back on the pitch”.
Despite scoring important goals in his first season, Depoitre never managed to find the back of the net in Huddersfield’s dire sophomore Premier League campaign.
Now back in a team that plays on the front foot, he already six goals to his name by September in eight appearances, the same number he managed in 60 over his two seasons with the Terriers.
Maybe it really was the football played by David Wagner?
