At the end of last month, reports in Belgium talked about Sheffield United’s interest in Michael Verrips.
It was then explained KV Mechelen’s sentencing for match fixing was the reason the keeper wanted to force a move away from the club.
The Blades have already strengthened the goalkeeping position after signing Dean Henderson on loan from Manchester United.
However, that hasn’t stopped the reports in Belgian about the newly promoted Premier League club’s interest in Verrips.
According to Het Laatste Nieuws, the shot stopper is ‘still negotiating’ with Sheffield United and, the report explains this has also been confirmed by Chris Wilder.
Verrips wants to terminate the contract with Mechelen and hopes to complete a switch to England on a free transfer.
However, Mechelen are unwilling to agree and are looking for a transfer fee to let him go.
Over the past few days, there have been talks between Verrips’ lawyers and Mechelen, but they are yet to reach a conclusion.
With less than two hours left before the window in England closes, it’s highly unlikely that Verrips will join Sheffield United.
