Jordi Alba is the only recognised left-back at Barcelona and the La Liga winners want to bring in a new player, not only to strengthen that position, but also to provide competition for the Spain international.

Junior Firpo has emerged as a concrete target, abd Friday’s edition of Sport claims Real Betis have raised the asking price as they now demand a €25m fixed fee for the Euro U21 winner.

The situation has forced Ernesto Valverde’s side to look at other alternatives. Tottenham Hotspur’s Danny Rose could also be an option for them.

However, Sport claims the Catalan club have ‘discarded’ the England international as a candidate for left-back, along with Borussia Dortmund defender Raphaël Guerreiro.

There is no explanation as to why Rose and Guerreiro are no longer on Barca’s list of left-back targets.

Rose remains at Tottenham despite Mauricio Pochettino’s side granting him permission to find a new club last month.
