Ruben Dias’ wish to stay at Benfica for one more year has been reported by the Portuguese media this week, and Jornal de Notícias comes up with a new story about it today.

The newspaper says the player feels he isn’t ready to move to a new league, and since Benfica don’t want him gone at all, he should stay where he is.

Speaking of the clubs who could sign him, Jornal de Notícias claims there are two who have shown interest: Manchester City and Manchester United.

And what’s stopping them from going for Dias would be the price. The defender is protected by a release clause of €66m, and City and United reportedly consider the amount to be too high.

Ruben Dias’ release clause could get even bigger now, since Benfica are negotiating a new deal with him.

When he returned from vacation, a contract with a €88m release clause was ready to be signed. But given the interest of other clubs, he thought he deserved a bigger pay raise, and that’s why it must be negotiated again.
